Opel and sister company Vauxhall have unveiled the third generation Movano, which gets an electric option for the first time. The 2021 Movano-e electric light commercial vehicle (LCV) joins the Combo-e and Vivaro-e, offers uncompromised load volume and will arrive in European showrooms later this year.
The 2021 Movano-e has an electric motor that generates 122 PS (121 HP / 90 kW) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) of torque. It is powered by a 37 or a 70 kWh battery, has a range of 117 km (72 miles) or 224 km (139 miles) respectively on the WLTP test cycle, and a 110 km/h (68 mph) limited top speed.
The battery is mounted between the axles under the floor, so it does not eat into the load volume compared to the diesel models that pack a 2.2-liter engine. The mill develops between 120 and 165 PS (118-163 HP / 88-121 kW) and 300 and 370 Nm (221-273 lb-ft) of torque, and comes matched to a six-speed manual gearbox and front-wheel drive in all configurations.
The third-generation Movano can be had in different body styles, including chassis cab, chassis crew cab and platform cab, with seating for up to seven (three in the standard configuration), four wheelbase lengths and three height options, with load volumes ranging from 8 to 17 cubic meters (282.5-600.3 cu-ft). In the H3 high-roof specification, it has a 2.03m (80 in) loading height and the doors can be opened up to 270 degrees. It has a maximum payload of 2,100 kg (4,630 lbs) and gross vehicle weight of 2,800-4,000 kg (6,173-8,818 lbs).
The 2021 Movano and Movano-e get the Vauxhall/Opel Connect and MyVauxhall/MyOpel app. In the electric van, the latter gives useful information such as the location of nearby charging stations, while the former provides access to the current charge status and others.
Regardless of the configuration, all of them feature Live Navigation with real-time traffic information, e-Call and b-Call technology, and can be had with different safety features that vary from the forward collision alert and blind spot warning, to lane departure warning and hill descent control.
