Founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company, William Lyon's S.S. Cars Limited became a successful manufacturer of very quick sports cars in the 1930s. After the war, his company's initials carried some baggage, so it was changed to Jaguar. For several years in the 1950s, the company sold the fastest cars in the world and they were also, somehow, an incredible bargain. At the heart of the company'™s success was the XK inline-six engine, which had a long career racing and powering road cars. Jaguar was part of Ford'™s portfolio from 1989 through 2008, when Tata Motors of India purchased the company. Today, Jaguar produces several lines of sporty and attractive cars and SUVs: the F-Type, XE, XF, XJ and F-Pace. In the future, the company will produce an electric vehicle called the I-Pace.
