Hyundai

This massive South Korean manufacturer started out, as many other manufacturers (including BMW) did, building someone else's cars. In the beginning, it was the Ford Cortina. By 1975, the Pony became the first South Korean car with licensed powertrains from Mitsubishi. In 1986, the company exported the Excel to the U.S., and a rigorous program of quality improvements led to increased success and sales. Hyundai currently sells a full line in the U.S., save for a pickup truck, with everything from subcompacts like the Accent to full-size cars such as the Sonata, and SUVs such as the Santa Fe and Tuscon. The upcoming N performance line will launch on the Veloster sporty hatchback.
